It seems that there are some reports surfacing on the net this year that Xmas decorations and in particular Tinsel can interfere with WiFi or Wireless computer networks. Airmagnet, a producer of industrial strenght WiFi equipment have discovered that season decorations can reduce WiFi singal strength by 25% and the range of the WiFi devices fell by 30%.
Other elements that can interfere with WiFi networks include metal shelving, microwave ovens and digital cordless telephones in the 2.4Ghz range. This is the same range as 54Mbps WiFi networks and above.
So a quick tip, if your wireless network has suddenly slowed you may have Xmas decorations in the way or the perching your WiFi router atop your tree was possibly not a good idea.
And does this mean you can't get wireless in Tinsel town. Who can tell? If you know the answer please drop us a line.
