Reduce your Clicks Print E-mail
This months quick tip is for Windows XP and is a quick and easy one, both to setup and in how it will speed things up for you. To set the scene, imagine you are looking for a document on your computer or server. You know where the document is, but to get to it,

you have to click from My Computer through a dozen folders to find the location where the file is saved.

Imagine for a moment what it would be like to be able to have the contents of your computer or server hard drive easily accessible from the task bar. The task bar is the bar running along the bottom of the screen. It would be pretty nice now wouldn’t it?

Step 1

To link your computers hard drive to the task bar simply find a section of the task bar that is clear of any icons etc and right click with your mouse. You will get a small menu like this one.

Step 2

Choose the Toolbar option at the top of the menu and left click.

Step 3

Now choose the New Toolbar option at the bottom of the menu which has popped out.

Step 4

From the window that is now presented locate and click on My Computer. This will display the name My Computer in the text box underneath.

Step 5
Click ok and you are done. Nice and easy. You will notice that your task bar has a My Computer item displayed on it now. You can click on this and it will expand out and show you all of the drives on your computer.

Move your mouse over one of the drives and it will show you all of the folders on that drive. Move your mouse over a folder and you will be shown all of the files and folders inside that folder and so on.

I think this tip makes finding those files and folders quicker and easier and with fewer mouse clicks.
