Working with computers day in day out can sometimes lead to things like niggling stiffness in arms and legs, tiredness in necks which can result in a reduced ability to concentrate.

Just like drivers are encouraged to stop and take a short break to stretch your legs on a long journey computer users can benefit from the same short break. It is recommended that office workers who use computers extensively give themselves a short break for a few minutes every 1 to 2 hours.

This allows you to stretch those kinks out and to just clear your head before getting back in to your work. After all you are doing a job that’s important for your employer and doing the best job you can will keep them happy and that means staying alert and effective through out the working day.

Our eyes are another area that many people over look when using computers heavily day after day. Eyes can get tired from looking at a monitor all day and its important to rest your eyes for short periods in the day. The position of the monitor can also affect your eyes, neck and shoulders. Try and position your screen so that you are looking either directly ahead at the screen or slightly down at the screen. If you position the monitor too high or too low it will increase tiredness and reduce your effectiveness at work.

Getting your eyes checked every year or two is also a good idea as something that you think may be caused by fatigue could be something completely different and could be quite easily correctable.

One way to tell if you need an eye checkup is to look at your monitor for a few seconds, ensuring you focus is on what’s displayed on the screen then to look away at something a few feet away from you. If it takes a second fro your eyes to focus clearly on what you are seeing then an eye check could be worthwhile.

If you have not been to have an eye check or would like a thorough checkup then local Leederville optometrist Eyes On Oxford can help you with a thorough eye exam. Unlike some national chains, Eyes on Oxford are dedicated to getting the right treatment for their customers and often provide effective treatment where another optomertrist could not.
