A new domain name scam is operating in Australia. Some domain name registration companies are operating in Australia using dubious marketing techniques.

Hotmix Group recently received a domain name notification from a company called Domain Name.com.au Pty Ltd. This notification has the appearance of an invoice and it is soliciting a payment for registering a NEW domain name for our company.

The domain name that was noted on the notification was for a .com or United States domain name. While this is not unusual, the notification is of dubious intent and we urge all our clients to be cautious if you receive one of these notifications.

The notification give the impression that there is an amount payable by the recipient (i.e. Hotmix Group) when this is not actually the case.

We also note that the fee being charged for the service is almost 10 times the amount you would actually pay if you registered the domain through a reputable US Domain Registration agency.

We urge our clients to be on the look out for these letters and to dispose of them accordingly. Alternatively you may wish to remove the notification and return the envelope to the company concerned, they have kindly undertaken to pay all postage costs.
